Making K-State Home
Coming from Fresno, California, Sierra Collier, an animal sciences and industry senior, felt an instant connection with the College of Agriculture after they visited her community college. Sierra knew immediately K-State was the place for her.
“I transferred without touring campus, and everything the recruitment team explained about the campus, Manhattan and the quality of education was wholeheartedly accurate,” Sierra says.
When Sierra arrived in Manhattan for her first semester at K-State her junior year, she sought out ways to be involved in her major and in the College of Agriculture. A leadership organization Sierra got involved in right away was the College of Agriculture Ambassadors, a group of student leaders devoted to sharing their experiences to future K-State students in the college. To become an ambassador, a student must apply in the fall and participate in the Agricultural Leadership Program.
“My favorite part about being an Ag Ambassador is getting to share my story and passion for K-State,” Sierra says. “It is a great way to expand leadership skills, campus knowledge and opportunities within the agricultural industry.”
Sierra is also involved in the swine club, the National Society of Leadership and Success, Snyder Leadership Legacy Fellows and works a part-time job at a veterinary clinic. Instead of seeing her schedule as busy, she says her involvement in different activities gives her many opportunities to learn and network.
“I took the initiative to get involved, meet people, and go to activities,” Sierra says. “I am so appreciative of all the opportunities I have had.”
